The Geisha varietal originates from Ethiopia. This bean is not cultivated extensively in Ethiopia, but it is well adapted to the climate of Central and South America, where it has been introduced recently; However, altitudes above 1900MASL seem to be the best adapted for this coffee varietal, making it more intricate to collect at harvest. As well, harvests are of lesser volume than the standard species, therefore their availability in small quantities only, at a premium.
It has only been a few years since this variety has been offered in very limited quantities, from sources in Panama, Costa Rica and now Guatemala.
